Manners and Feelings
Our Unit began with the book
. The students really enjoyed listening to the story!
Writing Activity: We glued a cut out of a person on our paper and decorated the person. Then we wrote: "I feel ________." The students wrote in how they felt.

After a discussion on different feelings, we made faces to show feelings! The pictures below are just a few examples of our feeling faces!

mad happy angry bored sad
We read the book
and learned different ways to handle our anger.
Then each student was given a happy or an angry face. The faces were sorted using a tree map. As each student came up to place their face in the correct place, they told why they thought the person in the picture was happy or angry. All the students came up with some wonderful answers! They were very creative!

We played a game called "Please Pass the Cookies." In order to play the game, we had to use our manners by saying "Please, Thank you, and Your Welcome." As we passed the cookies around the circle each student picked out either an oreo or a chocolate chip cookie. We then graphed the cookies to see which cookie was picked the most.

Once the graph was complete, we enjoyed eating real cookies! What a treat!

As the students entered into the class one morning, they came across a scary sight! Mrs. Morlan was covered from head to toe in band-aids! They were very concerned and she certainly had their attention when she finally read the poem "Band-Aids" to the class. After reading the poem and having fun counting all of Mrs. Morlan's band-aids, the students enjoyed passing around a band-aid box and sharing stories of when they had to wear a band-aid. The only person that had permission to talk was the holder of the band-aid box!

Our study of germs began when Mrs. Morlan came up behind the class sneezing all over the students. She pretended like she was spreading her germs! However, she really had a spray bottle of water! You should have seen the look of some of the faces when they were sneezed on from behind!
Every teacher needs to read the book
to the students! We had so much fun with the book and really learned a lot about germs! After reading "Germs, Germs, Germs," we passed around a "germ ball." The germ ball (a ball with green glitter glued on) showed us how fast and how easy germs spread all over the place!

Once we saw how easy it can be to get germs, we read the book
. This book helped us learn how to prevent and fight germs. We then made "Mr. and Ms. Sneezes" to place out in the hall in order to help other students remember to help prevent the spread of germs!
